Pidurangala Rock Hiking Sri Lanka Complete Guide

Pidurangala Rock Hiking Sri Lanka Complete Guide

A short introduction

Pidurangala Rock is a must-visit place for a tourist in Sri Lanka for those who love adventure and nature-based travel. It was able to inspire even more tourists to visit Sri Lanka because of its significant history.

Where is it located?

This standing rock is within Central Province, Sri Lanka, in the Matale District. The Central Province's Sigiriya Rock, unfolding itself into a discriminatory 3 kilometers, stands towering; that is, while on the tops of Sigiriya they view the Pidurangala; after they have ascended Pidurangala, they can have an amazing view of the Sigiriya rock.

History

It is widely known that Pidurangala was of great historical importance during the period of King Kashyapa unmistakable ruler of the Lion Rock. However, what differentiated the two monoliths was the fact that one mammoth rock, the Lion Rock, was used as a royal palace being the seat of royalty on account of which it had distinction as such, whereas the other was a rock of the same size and had been used for monastic purposes with no regard for kingdom! According to some old stories, the rock of Pidurangala had been the silver screen of Buddhist monks for centuries.

Weather

The weather in Sigiriya remains hot and humid throughout the year. The weather is mostly between 31°C to 36°C, but weather and rain go hand in hand during the year. The following are the divisions in temperature and rainfall according to seasons:

October to April - Rainy Season (Mostly)

May to September - Dry Season (relatively clear blue skies)

The Sri Lanka Meteorological Department says so. In saying so, similar to anything else, there is no assurance in practice.

Best Time to Visit

Ideal months to travel-may to September give you an African venture during the exhibitary dry season. Hiking enthusiasts will have the taste of their lives during the dry months.

Culture and Archeology

When one walks to the highest point, one will literally talk of a reclining Buddha statue under a large rock. And there are other ruins that look as though they belong to the rest of the Buddhist temple. The ruins and the forest trail create quite a bizarre sight.

Things to do

So, here is something about a few things one can do at Pidurangala:

The Sigiriya Rock: I told you earlier that the sight from the Pidurangala Rock is equally fantastic as from the monuments exposed on the Sigiriya Rock.

For Sunset and Sunrise: The area is just as attractive for the visitors to sit at the base of the mountain for watching the sun and then its perfect setting back into the horizon.

Bird Watching: Here, you'll be able to observe a variety of birds.

Photography Opportunities: Although it is not as tall as Sigiriya Rock, Pidurangala is yet another grand place for photography because it gives photographers forests, mountain ranges, reservoirs, and Lion Rock views.

Duration

An average person should take between 30 and 45 minutes to reach the top of the lands. However, it may vary according to our speed and health. Another person may spend 30 to 60 minutes standing atop the rock. That too may be lessened or increased based upon the nature of your activity. But, if you are one who is normally lazy then you can keep 1.5 to 2 hours as a tour's timeframe.

Visitor Information

Detailed information on the practical aspects of what is under review is:

Admission: Adults pay about US$3 at the entrance, and foreign kids—6 to 12—pay half for their entrance fees. Children below 6 years to a great extent are not charged.

Working hours: They work seven days, so starting at 5 a.m. until 6 p.m., it depends on the weather and why it is the lesser-crowded time to feel the dawn or dusk; it is a good time, if one could come this way either in the morning or before evening because later on the crowding mounts.

Dress Code: As you will be climbing a mountain, dress up to counter the effects of a late morning sun on your body and footwear.

Equipment needed: There is an all-round sun after late morning, so bring sunscreen. A hat, polarized sunglasses, camera, or binoculars will all be useful at the peak. Again, since there is no food or water available there, you can carry some snacks or water.

Physical Preparation: Since Pidurangala Rock is quite tall, it's kind of good to be at least in a better physical condition. Sometimes you see the trail very much shrinking, so you might want to be sure to wear kneepads.
