How long does Esala Perahera last?

For approximately a decade every year, the annual Esala Maha Perahera festival takes place. A religious event in which the ancient practice of offering offertories and a procession of the Lord Buddha's sacred tooth relic enshrined in the Temple of Tooth are celebrated with much pomp and show in a procession in which the relic is carried through the streets on a sacred elephant in a procession-parade under the cover of the full moon. Despite its confident appeal, the traditional drums and dancers long overdue, fireworks, the elephants show much grace and majestically beautiful dresses. Then, if there could be even a day, a person is lucky enough to witness this.
