How many waterfalls are in Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka has more than 400 waterfalls recorded, giving it the highest density of waterfalls in the world relative to its size. A lot of these cascades are gathered mostly in the central highlands area.

The island’s rugged middle mountains, plus intense monsoon downpours, make a strong mix of geological conditions for a huge web of waterfalls. Bambarakanda Falls comes in as the tallest, reaching 263 metres. Diyaluma Falls is next in height, and it is also well known for its upper natural rock pools. Other favourites that many travellers can reach rather easily include Ravana Falls in Ella, St. Clair’s Falls, and Devon Falls in the tea-growing district around Nuwara Eliya. Even though quite a few are viewable straight from the main upland roads, finding the quieter cascades often needs a guided jungle trek, and it helps to go during the rainy season because the flow is usually more impressive.
