How to get to Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage from colombo?
Getting to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage from Colombo is fairly easy; you can go by private taxi, and the whole trip usually takes around 2 to 2.5 hours via the Kandy Road (A1). Another option is to take a train to the Rambukkana station, then do a quick 10-minute tuk-tuk hop.
If you want the most comfortable approach, especially for families, hiring a private driver or taxi tends to win, because it has air-conditioning and it offers a direct door-to-door service from your Colombo hotel. For a more pocket-friendly plan and a slightly scenic rhythm, the train ride from Colombo Fort to Rambukkana takes about two hours. Once you arrive at Rambukkana railway station, tuk-tuks are easy to find, and they cover the last two-kilometre stretch to the orphanage. You can also look for public air-conditioned buses heading toward Kandy; some of them can drop you near the Karandupona junction, but you will still need to arrange a tuk-tuk from there to reach the Pinnawala spot.
