Is Pasikuda worth visiting?
Yes, Pasikuda is really worth visiting if you are looking for calm, shallow, crystal-clear waters and those luxurious beachfront resorts. It has one of the longest stretches of shallow reef coastline in the world, so it feels exceptionally safe for swimming.
It sits on the eastern side of Sri Lanka, and it works well for families and luxury travellers who prefer to avoid the rougher waves you get on the Southern Coast. The sea there is so tranquil and shallow that you can wade out for quite a distance, even hundreds of metres, and the water only ends up around your waist. For timing, May through September is usually best because the East Coast is in its dry season. Still, remember Pasikuda is heavily resort-focused; it does not really offer much of the vibrant backpacker atmosphere or the evening buzz, and you will not find the same independent dining scene as you would in Mirissa or Arugam Bay.
