What is the rainy season in Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka has two separate rainy seasons, mostly guided by monsoons: the Yala monsoon runs from May to August, mainly hitting the southwest, while the Maha monsoon happens from October through January, mostly reaching the northeast.

Since the island is influenced by two different weather systems, there is almost always some drier, brighter patch available for travel, no matter the time of year.
